Empire State Building with an iPhone

I’ve been a bit to busy this week to go out and take pictures so I’m posting something from the Jay Maisel workshop I did last year in September. The last evening we were up on the roof of “the bank”. After the sun set some of us went inside to drink wine and have a nice snack. Others like me stayed up on the roof and took more photos. In the photo below, on the left, you might be able to recognize a famous photographer using his iPhone to take photos of the Empire State Building.

Translucide

This evening I walked around on the ArtZuid sculpture route near my home in Amsterdam. The sculpture Translucide of Antoine Poncet reflected the light and the color of the sky beautifully. I’ve also added some more photos to the ArtZuid gallery.

Spui, Amsterdam on a Sunday

This afternoon I sat outside a bookstore on the Spui square in Amsterdam. It was quit cold but the sun kept me warm. Many people of many kinds walked by. I really enjoyed just watching.

Bird

This afternoon I walked around in a new office area in the south part of Amsterdam. I could have walked there for hours if it wasn’t so cold. The reflections of the light in the tall glass buildings created combined worlds: Near and far, small and large, hard and soft.

Waiting for Buddha

On Koya-san on the Okunoin Cemetery, which is the largest graveyard in Japan, you can find many beautiful graves and memorials. It was a rainy and foggy morning when we left from the monastery where we slept. But during our walk over the cemetery to the mausoleum of Kūkai the sun came out and made many nice light accents on the memorials.

A silhouette photo of monument Indonesia – Netherlands on the Olympiaplein in Amsterdam. I took this photo a couple of years ago and did do a lot of Photoshop work on it. I had to redo it all because I didn’t backup my photos until this drive crashed and I lost a lot of photos.

Rockefeller plaza

One of the entrances of the Rockefeller plaza in New York has beautiful artwork (?) on two sides. Lights shine on gold plated objects and reflect it on the wall. I’m not sure about this description, but just look at the picture…. I thought it looks like the shadow of the skyline of New York.

Meiji Shrine, Tokyo

On our way to the Meiji Shrine near the Harajuku Station I saw this couple walking slowly over a wet bridge. The light was filtered by the fresh green leafs. If you ever are in Tokyo on a Sunday this is an area where you can really see many aspects of the Japanese society and have some fun as well.

De Slufter

The photo was taken in National Park “Dunes of Texel” in the Netherlands. This area is called “de Slufter”. It was on a foggy morning. The sun was trying to clear the sea fog and the light was beautiful. More information about the Texel Dunes National Park and the “De Slufter” can be found on this Wikipedia page.

A Roof in NYC

Recently I attended a workshop of Jay Maisel in New York called “Always carry a camera”. I loved it. It was my first time in NYC. On the last night of the workshop we stood on the roof the building of Jay Maisel. The sun had just set and most of the other students already were drinking wine in the kitchen below. The photo below is the view looking to lower Manhattan. If you ever get the chance to follow a workshop of Jay Maisel, do it.

I am busy creating an album about my week in New York. First make selection of a couple of photos out of the pile of thousands of I took.

Arriving in New York City the old fashion way is wonderful. I took the ferry to Staten Island and saw this beautiful view of Manhattan on a warm and humid Saturday morning.
